A method and apparatus are provided for determining an orientation of a drilling tool of a drilling system configured to drill a borehole into the Earth's surface. The method includes providing a survey system including at least one sensor within the drilling system. The sensor is configured to provide orientation information. The survey system is operable at a plurality of resolution levels. The method further includes operating the survey system at a first resolution level while the drilling tool is a first distance relative to the surface. The method further includes operating the survey system at a second resolution level while the drilling tool is a second distance relative to the surface. The second distance is larger than the first distance. The second resolution level is higher than the first resolution level.
La présente invention concerne procédé et un appareil permettant de déterminer une orientation d'un outil de forage ou d'un système de forage agencé pour forer un trou dans la surface de la terre. Ce procédé consiste à prendre un système d'étude comprenant au moins un capteur à l'intérieur du système de forage. Ce capteur est agencé de façon à fournir des informations relatives à l'orientation. Le système d'étude peut fonctionner à une pluralité de niveaux de résolution. Ce procédé consiste aussi à faire fonctionner ce système d'étude à un premier niveau de résolution alors que l'outil de forage est situé à une première distance par rapport à la surface. Ce procédé consiste aussi à faire fonctionner le système de surveillance à un second niveau de résolution alors que l'outil de forage est situé à une seconde distance par rapport à la surface. Cette seconde distance est plus grande que la première distance. Le second niveau de résolution est supérieur au premier niveau de résolution.
