DETOXIFICATION PROCESS FOR BRASSICA JUNCEA SEED PRODUCTS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The allyl glucosinolate content of Brassica juncea L. mustard seed, meal or products thereof is reduced by treatment with ammonia or ammonium hydroxide and heating to less than 30 micromoles/gram of oil extracted air dry sample. Heating in accordance with commercial cooking conditions or commercial desolventizing-toasting conditions can be applied. The levels of sinapine and indolyl glucosinolate are reduced and the con- tent of bound nitrogen is increased. The process enables the use of the product in animal feed stock without problems of palatability or toxicity.
