The invention provides a tuner as constituent component for constructing a tunable or switchable spectral filter, including single and multiple stage filters and fitters without intermediate polarizer, over a wavelength range, which is characterized in that it comprises elements arranged in cascade along a light beam axis including a dispersive polarization rotator, having its rotation angle p(.lambda.) varying as a function of light wavelength .lambda. over said wavelength range; an orientation-sensitive polarizing element, and means for rotating said polarizing element or/and varying said rotation angle p(.lambda.) ; whereby said polarization rotator and said polarizing element are arranged in series in said spectral fitter along said light beam axis with said polarizing element oriented at a predetermined orientation angle related to the structure of said spectral filter, and said tuner is operated by rotating said polarizing element to change its orientation in said filter or/and by changing said rotation angle p(.lambda.) . The invention is also concerned with said filters and furthermore tuning methods for tuning said filters.

Cette invention se rapporte à un syntoniseur en tant qu'élément constitutif d'un filtre spectral syntonisable ou commutable, comprenant des filtres à un seul étage et à plusieurs étages et des filtres sans polariseur intermédiaire, sur une plage de longueur d'ondes donnée. Ce syntoniseur se caractérise en ce qu'il comprend des éléments disposés en cascade le long d'un axe de faisceau lumineux comportant un rotateur de polarisation dispersive, dont l'angle de rotation .rho.(.lambda.) varie en fonction de la longueur d'ondes de la lumière .lambda. sur ladite plage de longueur d'ondes ; un élément polarisant sensible à l'orientation ; et un moyen destiné à mettre en rotation cet élément polarisant et/ou à faire varier l'angle de rotation .rho.(.lambda.). Ledit rotateur de polarisation et ledit élément polarisant sont disposés en série dans ledit filtre spectral le long dudit axe de faisceau lumineux, l'élément polarisant étant orienté selon un angle d'orientation prédéterminé par rapport à la structure du filtre spectral, et le syntoniseur est actionné par rotation de l'élément polarisant, de façon à modifier son orientation dans le filtre et/ou par variation de l'angle de rotation .rho.(.lambda.). Cette invention concerne également de tels filtres, ainsi que des procédés de syntonisation de ces filtres.
