The invention relates to a an illumination and modulation device and to a method for modulating the illumination intensity of an integrating digital screen imaging system (IDSI). Said device comprises a light source, a light modulator and various other devices. The aim of the invention is to provide a device and a method which allow that the illumination quality is optimized by simple means. To this end, the device is provided with at least one device that varies the number of cells of the light modulator utilized to illuminate the light-sensitive material. According to the inventive method, the number of cells of the light modulator utilized to illuminate the light-sensitive material can be varied.

La présente invention concerne un dispositif d'éclairage et de modulation, ainsi qu'un procédé de modulation de l'intensité d'éclairage dans un système d'intégration d'images d'écran numériques (Integrating-Digital-Screen-Imaging / IDSI). Ledit dispositif comprend une source de lumière, un modulateur de lumière et différents éléments. L'objet de l'invention est la réalisation d'un dispositif et la mise en oeuvre d'un procédé permettant d'optimiser la qualité d'éclairage avec des moyens simples. Pour cela, soit le dispositif présente au moins un élément servant à faire varier le nombre de cellules du modulateur de lumière utilisées pour l'éclairage du matériau photosensible, soit, le procédé de l'invention est mis en oeuvre pour faire varier le nombre de cellules du modulateur de lumière utilisées pour l'éclairage du matériau photosensible.
