A device and method for cooling the skin of a patient during dermatological laser surgery. The device comprises an annular thermoelectric cooler, used to cool the patient's skin while a pulsed laser beam is directed at the surgical target via the hole of the annulus. Preferred embodiments of the device include a thermally conductive window covering the hole on the cold side of the annulus, a temperature feedback circuit for regulating the electrical current supplied to the device, means for preventing condensation of moisture on the window, and means for synchronizing the operation of the device with the laser pulses. In a variant of the device, the thermoelectric cooler need not be annular, but must have a thermally conductive window thermally coupled to its cold side. The window itself is used to cool the patient's skin while a pulsed laser beam is directed at the surgical target via the window.
Dispositif et méthode de rafraîchissement de la peau d'un patient au cours d'une chirurgie dermatologique au laser. Le dispositif comporte un rafraîchisseur thermoélectrique annulaire servant à rafraîchir la peau du patient tandis que le faisceau laser pulsé est dirigé vers la cible chirurgicale par le trou de l'anneau. Les modèles privilégiés du dispositif comprennent une fenêtre à conductivité thermique recouvrant le trou du côté froid de l'anneau, un circuit de réaction de la température permettant de régler le courant électrique fourni au dispositif, des moyens d'empêcher la formation de condensation sur la fenêtre et des moyens de synchroniser le fonctionnement du dispositif avec les impulsions laser.
