A device (100) and method for delivering an agent to the uterine cervix make use of a seal member (102) that defines a chamber (103) upon engagement with the cervix. An agent delivery port (106) in fluid communication with the chamber is provided for delivery of the agent to the uterine cervix. A vacuum port (117) in fluid communication with the chamber allows application and retention of vacuum pressure to the chamber. At least a portion of the seal member is deformable in response to contact with the outer surface of the uterine cervix and application of vacuum pressure. Upon deformation, the seal member substantially seals the chamber against leakage of the agent. The seal member may include a tacky skirt-like member that promotes adhesion of the seal member to the cervix, and enhances the effectiveness of the seal. In this manner, the device prevents leakage, thereby improving diagnostic or therapeutic effectiveness while reducing waste and expense. The device and method also can be adapted for introduction of surgical or diagnostic instruments, such as ablation catheters or endoscopes.
L'invention concerne un dispositif (100) et un procédé servant à administrer un agent au col de l'utérus, au moyen d'un élément (102) d'étanchéité qui définit une chambre (103) lorsqu'il entre en contact avec le col. Un orifice (106) d'administration d'agent en communication fluidique avec la chambre sert à administrer l'agent au col de l'utérus. Un orifice (117) de pression de vide en communication fluidique avec la chambre permet d'appliquer et de maintenir une pression de vide dans la chambre. Au moins une partie de l'élément d'étanchéité est déformable en réponse à un contact avec la surface extérieure du col de l'utérus et à l'application d'une pression de vide. Lorsqu'il se déforme, l'élément d'étanchéité rend la chambre sensiblement étanche de façon à empêcher toute fuite d'agent. L'élément d'étanchéité peut comporter un élément du type jupe collante qui favorise l'adhérence de l'élément d'étanchéité contre le col, et renforce l'efficacité de l'élément d'étanchéité. De cette manière, le dispositif empêche toute fuite, ce qui permet d'améliorer l'efficacité diagnostique ou thérapeutique et de réduire en même temps les déchets et les coûts. Le dispositif et le procédé peuvent également être adaptés en vue d'une introduction d'instruments chirurgicaux ou diagnostiques, tels que des cathéters d'ablation ou des endoscopes.
