A generally cylindrical rope slide acts as a grip to hold a rope end while it is being heated to melt the end as a deterrent to fraying. The slide has a longitudinal slot so that it may be squeezed to grip the rope or relaxed to slide on the rope. The slide may cover the rope end during cooling to act as a mold. The slot widens at one end so that the rope may be wedged into the widened portion to force the slot open for insertion of a bight of rope.
