The present invention is directed to a device and method for opening obstructed body internal passages and for sensing and characterizing tissues and substances being in contact with the device of the invention. In general, the device of the present invention comprises a catheter tube capable of inducing vibrations in a guidewire contained therein, wherein said vibrations of the guidewire are utilized for opening a passage through an occlusion. The in-vivo vibrations may be induced by means of a magnetic field actuating means (5) and a guidewire (2) comprising magnetic coupling means (3), or by means of transducers, which may be also used for the sensing.

La présente invention concerne un dispositif et une méthode destinés au traitement de passages internes corporels obstrués et à la détection et à la caractérisation de tissus et de substances en contact avec le dispositif de l'invention. En règle générale, le dispositif de la présente invention comprend un cathéter capable de produire des vibrations au niveau d'un fil-guide situé à l'intérieur du cathéter, les vibrations produites étant utilisées pour ouvrir un passage au niveau de l'occlusion. Les vibrations in vivo peuvent être produites à l'aide d'un moyen de commande à champ magnétique (5) et d'un fil-guide (2) comprenant un moyen de couplage magnétique (3), ou à l'aide de transducteurs, pouvant également servir à la détection des tissus et des substances en contact avec le dispositif.
