This invention is a method, and device for producing visual sensations within blind persons. The method includes installing a self-sizing spiral nerve cuff electrode (14) about the optic nerve (20) of a blind person, and transmitting electrical pulses to the nerve to generate phosphenes within the patient's visual field.

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de susciter chez des individus aveugles des sensations visuelles. Le procédé consiste à placer autour du nerf optique (20) d'un individu aveugle une boucle d'électrode neurologique (14) en spirale auto-calibrée, puis à envoyer au nerf des impulsions électriques de façon à générer des phosphènes à l'intérieur du champ visuel du patient.
