The invention relates to a regulating device which is used to regulate a lateral part of a seat. Said device comprises a flexible element (31) which is to be coupled to the lateral part, and wherein the arch thereof can be altered in a reversible manner, and a maintaining element which comprises a base section (36) and a pivotable pivoting section (37) which is arranged therein. Said regulating device is embodied in such a manner that the flexible element (31) is initially displaced in relation to the maintaining element and subsequently curved such that a section (34), which is to be coupled to the lateral part, is displaced is an initially linear manner and subsequently arched and which is transmitted to a lateral part of the seat when a force is exerted by means of an actuation device (21, 22).
