An ink sensing apparatus for a value dispensing device having a printhead which prints an indication of value includes a device for determining a total amount of ink consumed by the value dispensing device based on a total number of indications of value printed by the printhead and a total number of maintenance actions performed on the printhead; a device for ascertaining that the total amount of ink consumed by the value dispensing device has exceeded a predetermined amount; and a device for providing an indication that the total amount of ink consumed by the value dispensing apparatus has exceeded the predetermined amount. A method associated with the above device includes the steps of: determining a total amount of ink consumed by the value dispensing device based on a total number of indications of value printed by the printhead and a total number of maintenance actions performed on the printhead; ascertaining that the total amount of ink consumed by the value dispensing device has exceeded a predetermined amount; and providing an indication that the total amount of ink consumed by the value dispensing apparatus has exceeded the predetermined amount.
L'invention est un appareil de mesure de la consommation d'encre pour dispositif d'attribution de valeurs comportant une tête d'impression de valeurs dotée d'un dispositif servant à déterminer la quantité totale d'encre consommée par le dispositif d'attribution de valeurs d'après le nombre total des valeurs imprimées par la tête d'impression et le nombre total des opérations de maintenance effectuées sur la tête d'impression; un dispositif servant à déterminer si la quantité totale d'encre consommée par le dispositif d'attribution de valeurs dépasse une quantité préétablie; et un dispositif servant à indiquer que la quantité totale d'encre consommée par le dispositif d'attribution de valeurs dépasse ladite quantité préétablie. L'invention est également constituée par la méthode de fonctionnement du dispositif ci-dessus, laquelle comporte les opérations suivantes : détermination de la quantité totale d'encre consommée par le dispositif d'attribution de valeurs d'après le nombre total de valeur imprimée par la tête d'impression et le nombre total des opérations de maintenance effectuées sur la tête d'impression; établissement du fait que la quantité totale d'encre consommée par le dispositif d'attribution de valeurs a dépassé la quantité préétablie; et communication d'une indication que la quantité totale d'encre consommée par le dispositif d'attribution de valeurs a dépassé la quantité préétablie.
