This invention relates to the ability of the user to view a distant object at a close range. for example, when used in the inspection of the human foot, it provides the user with the ability to transmit an enhanced image of areas of the foot, not normally visible to the naked eye, directly to eye level. This method of inspection, and the associated device, allows a patient suffering from a disease such as diabetes, to carefully inspect the bottom of his/her own feet without the assistance of another person. Further, the device described contains a source of illumination that will give the user the opportunity of viewing anomalies that may be hidden in the rough texture of the skin, or in dark areas that have been shaded by protrusions such as toes. Unlike reflected images that appear in mirrors, the device allows the user the ability to inspect their extremities with full range of motion, while segmenting a broad surface into definable fields of view. The device provides evenly lit, enhanced image transfer, without significant parallax distortion. The use of the device is not limited to the inspection of body parts. It may also provide the user with the opportunity to view objects hidden from obvious view, as in the case of automobile or airplane engines, which may contain damage hidden from front view as part of the opposing side of fixed parts that block direct inspection, and that cannot be viewed directly by the human eye, or directly illuminated with a flashlight or other conventional light sources. In the case of plumbing fixtures located underneath a sink, the plumber must now crawl underneath the fixture to examine for leaks, while the device described in the instant art would allow him to simply place the instrument in the area to be examined, and do the entire inspection from a standing position with minimum effort.

Par exemple, le dispositif pourra être utilisé par quelqu'un pour contrôler visuellement l'état de ses pieds sans avoir à se pencher, le dispositif permettant de visionner une image rehaussée de régions du pied non visibles normalement à l'oeil nu. Cette méthode de contrôle visuel et le dispositif associé permettent à un patient souffrant de diabète, par exemple, de vérifier soigneusement l'état de la plante de ses pieds sans aide. De plus, le dispositif comporte une source lumineuse donnant à l'utilisateur la possibilité de détecter des anomalies pouvant être masquées par la texture rugueuse de la peau ou par l'ombre portée par des appendices tels que des orteils. Contrairement aux dispositifs à miroirs, l'objet de l'invention permet à l'utilisateur de contrôler l'état de ses membres sans avoir adopter une position particulière et lui offre la possibilité de segmenter une surface en champs délimités de contrôle visuel. Le dispositif présente une image rehaussée sous éclairage uniforme et sans erreur notable de parallaxe. Son emploi ne se limite pas au contrôle visuel de parties du corps. Il peut aussi permettre à l'utilisateur de voir des objets non visibles directement, notamment des parties cachées de moteurs d'automobile ou d'avion qui peuvent être endommagées et qui se trouvent masquées par des pièces fixes ou que l'on ne peut éclairer directement avec une lampe de poche ou une autre source lumineuse classique. Dans le cas d'appareils de robinetterie se trouvant sous un évier par exemple, le plombier n'a pas besoin de ramper sous l'appareil pour vérifier la présence de fuites. Il lui suffit de placer l'instrument à proximité de l'endroit à inspecter et de procéder sans effort et sans se pencher.
