A phototherapy device and method for treating neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) and related conditions. The device comprises a flexible material at least partially encasing flexible circuitry that allows the device to flex as an infant is positioned on it, while, also protecting the circuitry. The circuitry comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) mounted within flexible circuitry, means for altering the duty cycle of the LEDs, and wiring to connect the circuitry to a power supply. The device further comprises a multilayer film that encases all of the circuitry, the flexible material, and LEDs to facilitate sterilization in both long-term or short-term use.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif et un procédé de photothérapie destinés à traiter l'hyperbilirubinemie néonatale (jaunisse) et les états apparentés. Le dispositif comprend un matériau souple entourant au moins partiellement un circuit souple permettant au dispositif de fléchir lorsqu'un enfant y est positionné, tout en protégeant également le circuit. Le circuit comprend une pluralité de diodes électroluminescentes (DEL) montées dans le circuit souple, des moyens de modification du facteur de charge des DEL et un câblage de connexion du circuit à une alimentation électrique. Le dispositif comprend de plus un film multicouche qui entoure la totalité du circuit, le matériau souple et les DEL afin de faciliter la stérilisation dans une utilisation à la fois à long terme ou à court terme.
