The invention provides a cost effective way to reduce significantly the amount of water used every time a flush toilet is used, without reducing the efficiency of the toilet apparatus. The present design of flush toilets used in most dwellings and many public places consist of a tank holding water in amounts varying between 6 Liters and 17 Liters, with the older models holding the most water. A lever mounted on the tank pulls on a vertical chain, or rod, which in turn lifts the flap valve at the bottom of the tank, releasing all the water contained in the tank in one flush. Often a delay mechanism is included to make the flap valve stay open longer and thereby allow the tank sufficient time to empty entirely. It is an observed fact that less water is required for the removal of liquid wastes from the toilet bowl, than for solid wastes, yet the same amount of water is used every time the toilet is flushed. This invention proposes that less water should be used for the removal of liquid wastes than for solid wastes, thus saving a precious resource - purified, clean water - by adding a weighted metal device above the flap at the bottom of the tank that would shorten the opening time of the flap and reduce the total volume of water flowing out when a short flush is desired, while allowing a full flush when required for solid wastes. Further, the installation of the added device is very simple and does not require the services of a plumber, but could be executed in a few moments without tools by any citizen.
