Apparatus and methods are described that are particularly suited for creating a seal in a borehole annulus. In one embodiment, an outer surface of an expandable conduit is provided with a formation that includes an elastomeric material (e.g. a rubber) that can expand and/or swell when the material comes into contact with an actuating agent (e.g. water, brine, drilling fluid etc.). The expandable conduit is located inside a second conduit (e.g. a pre-installed casing, liner or open borehole) and radially expanded. The actuating agent can be naturally occurring in the borehole or can be injected or pumped therein to expand or swell the elastomeric material to create the seal.
L'invention concerne un appareil et des procédés particulièrement adaptés pour créer un joint d'étanchéité dans un espace annulaire de trou de forage. Selon un mode de réalisation, une surface extérieure (10s) de conduit extensible (10) est dotée d'une formation (20) comprenant un matériau élastomère (par exemple, du caoutchouc) qui s'étend ou et/ou se gonfle lorsque ledit matériau vient en contact avec un agent d'actionnement (par exemple, eau, saumure, fluide de forage, etc.). Ledit conduit extensible (10) est placé à l'intérieur d'un second conduit (par exemple, un carter pré-installé, une garniture ou un trou de forage ouvert) et radialement déployé. L'agent d'actionnement peut se trouver naturellement dans le trou de forage, être injecté ou pompé dans celui-ci de façon à déployer ou gonfler le matériau élastomère, et créer ainsi un joint.
