Method and assay devices for the detection of the presence or amount of biological material, analyte(s), or microorganism(s) in a sample. The method includes the steps of liquefying the sample (if necessary) and distributing the liquefied sample over the surface of the assay device. The device may comprise an incubation plate, a dip stick device, or other devices. The devices have at least one reagent provided within the devices. Some devices have a generally flat horizontal surface which is divided into a plurality of recessed wells. Others have one or more surfaces with reagent island(s) immobilized thereon. Each well or reagent island is adapted to hold an aliquot of liquid. The wells or reagent islands are sized and shaped, and formed of a suitable material, to hold the aliquot within the well or reagent island by surface tension. Any excess liquid from the liquefied sample is drained from the surface of the device. The method then involves incubating the assay device until the presence or amount of the biological material, analyte, or microorganism is determined.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et des dispositifs d'analyse permettant de détecter la présence ou de déterminer la quantité d'une matière biologique, d'un ou plusieurs analytes ou microorganismes dans un prélèvement. Le procédé consiste à liquéfier le prélèvement (si nécessaire) et à distribuer le prélèvement liquéfié sur la surface du dispositif d'analyse. Le dispositif peut comprendre une plaque d'incubation, une bandelette réactive ou d'autres dispositifs. Ces dispositifs renferment au moins un réactif. Certains dispositifs présentent une surface horizontale généralement plate divisée en plusieurs puits encastrés, d'autres présentent une ou plusieurs surfaces sur lesquelles sont immobilisés un ou plusieurs îlots de réactif. Chaque puits ou îlot de réactif est apte à maintenir une aliquote de liquide. Les puits ou îlots de réactif présentent une taille et une forme telles, et ils sont réalisés dans un matériau adapté tel qu'ils maintiennent l'aliquote à l'intérieur du puits ou de l'îlot de réactif par tension interfaciale. Tout excès de liquide du prélèvement liquéfié est évacué de la surface du dispositif. Le procédé consiste ensuite à faire incuber le dispositif d'analyse jusqu'à ce que l'on puisse déceler la présence ou déterminer la quantité de la matière biologique, de l'analyte ou du microorganisme.
