ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The device of the invention is for acquiring, storing and evaluating data obtained during a checking process. The data transmitter at the site consists of a magnetically codable device, such as a magnetized strip bearing a bar code magnetic pattern mounted in a holder, while the acquisition and storage means preferably is a hand held device that is able to read the strip and store the resultant data together with other required data, such as the time the data was read, in an electronic circuit. The device can then be placed in a data evaluating means which can read the data and provide a display. The transmitter and acquisition means have cooperating mechanical structures to guide the latter in required orientation over the former, and ensure reading of the data.
