This invention is a device to reduce the generation of extraneous noise in the mouthpiece of a handset due to airflow at the entrance to the microphone. The problem of airflow is particularly acute for the plosive sounds such as "p" and "t" for which the velocity of air flow is high. The invention comprises an array of small holes, a backing chamber and an offset sound tube leading to the microphone. Significant reductions in broadband airflow noise are achieved.
