ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for cutting, dispensing and applying pliable cellular material, such as paper, parchment and cellular glass foil, to metered portions of foodstuffs such as sliced ham, sausage and smoked salmon which is to be assembled into serving portions. The apparatus consists of devices for transporting and cutting a paper or foil strip, and pieces of foil, a device for applying the individual paper sheets or pieces of foil onto the foodstuff slices and a conveyor belt for transporting the foodstuff slices with the paper sheets or pieces of foil. In this apparatus, the trans- port device and the cutting device are so configured that pieces of foil can be separated from a roll of foil a-t high speed and positioned on a dispensing roller either for removel by hand or for dispensing onto the foodstuff without any manual intervention. It is also possible that the piece of foil can be made to fall from a further transport device, at a specific speed and in a specific direction, so that it impacts onto a slice of smoked salmon, for example, in the air, whereby pieces of smoked salmon can be laid on top of each other with individual pieces of foil between the slices.
