A device for arresting a moving body, such as a hockey puck. The device includes two shock absorbing members in a telescoping engagement. During the initial stages of the impact one shock-absorbing member compresses to decelerate the hockey puck. Beyond a certain point the second shock-absorbing member starts compressing to take- up the kinetic energy of the hockey puck at a higher rate. The shock-absorbing members can be either maintained in a compressed condition following an impact or released for ejecting back the hockey puck.
