The devise is in the form of a hydrometer (10) having a hollow stem (11) adapted to receive a quantity of a corrosion inhibitor (16) and having openings (15) in the stem wall allowing contact of the liquid in the coolant system with the corrosion inhibitor when the specific gravity of the coolant liquid decreases below a predetermined level.
