ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a device for prying a lid from a container where the lid is exposed at the side of the container. The device comprises a movable prying member, a guide for guiding the prying member between the lid and the container, an actuater for moving the prying member and a retaining portion for holding the container in a manner such that the lid is clamped between the prying member and the retainer to resist container movement while the lid is pried therefrom.
