- 1 - Abstract: The invention provides a device for firmly clamping an end portion of an optical fiber. The device comprises a cylindrical sleeve and an adaptor. The sleeve is formed with an axially extending aperture for receiving the end portion of the optical fiber and at least one slit extending both radially from its outer side face to the aperture and axially through the sleeve along a plane containing the axis of the sleeve. The outer side face of the sleeve is at least partly tapered to form a tapered outer side face and the adaptor is formed with a tapered bore corresponding, in shape, to the tapered outer side face. The device can releasably secure an optical fiber located in the axial aperture when the tapered sleeve is pressed into the adaptor.
