ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus is disclosed for the concentration of mineral acids. It is particularly useful for concentrating and purifying sulphuric acid. A furnace is provided with a plurality of long quartz tubes which extend vertically in the furnace and are sealed in relation to the furnace at their upper and lower ends. Means are provided for feeding acid to be concentrated into the upper ends of the tubes and means are provided for withdrawing concentrated acid at the lower ends of the tubes and directing it into a collecting vessel. Means are arranged in the furnace to create convection of the heating gases and flow channels are provided which extend parallel to and around the parts of the quarts tubes which are inside the furnace. Means for producing turbulence are located in the flow channels.
