ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved slide fastener of the type having opposed strings or rows of interlocking teeth or elements brought into engaging and dis- engaging relationship by a slider element includes a pair of especially adapted terminals which facilitate the engagement of the ends of the slide fastener and facilitate the initial movement of the slider to bring the teeth into engagement. The terminals are engagable by being brought together in a direction substantially perpendicular to the strings of the slide fastener. One of the terminals is configured to have a receiving aperture at least about several times larger than the area defined by one of the ports or teeth receiving openings in the slider for receiving the interlocking teeth to enable handy engagement with the other terminal. Once engaged, the terminals are essentially self- aligning, and are free to rotate relative to each other to permit the opposed rows of the slide fastener elements to self-align as the slider is urged forward. -36-
