ABSTRACT In an eddy-current brake (10) for controlling quantita- tive flow in a waterline and with a brake housing (11) in the shape of a lying frustum of a cone with an outlet opening (14) in the narrow end and an inlet opening (13) downwardly on the large end face (12) there is disposed a guide vane (24) opposite the inlet opening within the housing, said guide vane (24) being rotatable about the axis of the housing by means of an exterior adjustment lever (21) between a position in which it closes the inlet, and a position in which it is disposed completely outside the inlet region and thus allows free flow. In intermediate positions the guide vane deflects the inflowing stream of water toward the frusto- conical wall so that the water, when the pressure head exceeds a certain value, is caused to rotate about the axis of the housing to produce the desired brake effect. This effect can by varied by adjustment of the guide vane. Its deflecting effect permits the inlet spout (15) and outlet spout (16) of the brake housing to be disposed in elongation of each other, which involves great advantages in terms of incorporation. Fig. 1 should be published.
