ABSTRACT The invention relates to a device for controlling the lateral position of a web 1 in web printing presses by means of final control elements and measuring devices which scan both web edges and regulate the web to a set point by means of final control elements, whereby a fouling of the optical scanning systems 2, 3 or a side change-over does not lead to erroneous control of the web, which would trigger a sudden change in position of the web 1, possibly leading to a tearing of the latter.
