A device for conveying and guiding a lead strip in a paper machine includes an air permeable conveyor belt having, in connection with its conveying run for conveying a lead strip, a chamber on the opposite side of the belt from the lead strip. The chamber includes a vacuum generator to cause the lead strip to adhere and to be held on the run of the conveyor belt. The device includes an actuator for moving the conveyor belt. The vacuum generator includes a blower fitted to be driven by the actuator.
