The device relates to the register correction of sheet prints and the compensation of distorted sheets in a sheet-fed rotary printing machine by deformation of the leading sheet edge before the printing unit. It consists of an adjustable bending device which, in accordance with the machine beat, bends a cross-bar on which there are provided adjacent sheet grippers and which extends transversely to the travel direction of the sheet. This bending device cooperates with a pre-gripper exe- cuting swinging movements about a stationary axis or about an axis which can be adjusted into fixed positions, said pre-grip- per comprising a gripper bridge (8) which forms the cross-bar for the sheet grippers and, at least, the ends of which are supported on a gripper bridge shaft (10) by means of flexurally stiff levers (9), said bending device consisting of at least one adjustable stop (12, 21) which is fixed to the machine frame (11) and against which the gripper bridge (8) abuts in approximately the middle between the two levers (9) before, when swivelling back, the gripper bridge ends will have reached their zero position in which the sheet grippers (20) will take the sheet (1).
