DEVICE FOR DAMPING THE CRITICAL FREQUENCIES OF A ROTOR SUSPENDED BY A RADIAL ELECTROMAGNETIC BEARING ABSTRACT A rotor is carried by radial electromagnetic bearings each having an associated detecting device which, through a servo-circuit, governs the current to the windings of the bearing to maintain the rotor in a predetermined position. To damp critical frequencies, the servo-circuit includes a selective amplifier of the phase or phase advance gain of the circuit in a narrow band centered on a frequency corresponding to the speed of the rotor. By using conversion circuits slaved to the rotor, the system operates for any rotor speed.
