The present invention is directed to a device (10) for describing arcs. The device (10) includes a pair of legs (12, 14) connected at a pivot joint (16). A shoe (20) is disposed at the end of one leg (12, 14) to support the device (10) and maintain the center point of the arc while the device (10) is used. An instrument (32) is attached to the other leg so arcs can be formed as the device (10) is rotated about the shoe (20). A rack (56) and wheel (64) are also connected to the legs (12, 14) to adjust the radius of the arc.
