A device for detecting a fixed image on a liquid crystal display screen (12) comprising at least one photoelectric cell (4) which can provide a luminance signal 1(t) to means (8) for the treatment of said signal. The cell is disposed opposite a display area (Z) of the screen. In said display area, it is possible to control the display of a variable pattern at a characteristic frequency fc. The treatment means can detect the characteristic frequency in the signal 1(t). In the event of non-detection, they trigger a corresponding alarm.
