Abstract of the Disclosure The length of a train of vehicles, e.g. subway carriages, is determined by measuring the power consumption of mechanically-operated, spring-loaded brakes which are kept in the OFF position electromagnetically while the said vehicles are in motion. This eliminates the need for a separate means for measuring the length of the train of vehicles.
