(57) Abstract A device for determining the position of an ob- ject in relation to a reference line defined by two end marks has two mirrors (10, 11) fitted at equal and op- posing angles on a bearer (6) with aiming devices (12) for alignment with the end marks so that they receive images from opposite directions and can be observed at the same time. In order in particular to be able quickly and easily to determine the position of a boat in relation to the starting line in sailing regattas, the mirrors (10. 11) are arranged on a platform (6) at equal and opposite inclinations so that they can be ob- served from above, and are pivotably interlinked at their adjacent upper horizontal edges.
