A device is disclosed for encoding a stream of databits of a binary source signal (S) into a stream of databits of a binary channel signal (C), wherein the stream of databits of the source signal is divided into n-bit source words (x1, x2), which device comprises converting means (CM) conceived to convert said n-bit source words into corresponding m-bit channel words (y1, y2, y3) in accordance with a conversion of the parity preserve type, where m and n are integers, with m~n. The device further comprises control means for carrying out DC-control on said binary channel signal by introducing a freedom of choice in the source-to-channel conversion. Furthermore, a decoding device is disclosed for decoding the channel signal obtained by means of the encoding device.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif de codage d'un flux binaire de signal source binaire (S) en un flux binaire de signal de canal binaire (C) par division du premier flux en mots source (x¿1?, x¿2?) de n bits. Le dispositif de codage comporte des moyens de conversion (CM) convertissant lesdits mots en mots de canal correspondants de m bits (y¿1?, y¿2?, y¿3?) en accord avec une conversion du caractère de préservation de parité, m et n étant des entiers et m~n. Le dispositif comporte en outre des moyens pour effectuer la commande de conversion sur le signal de canal binaire par introduction d'une liberté de choix dans la conversion source vers canal. L'invention porte de plus sur un système se décodage du signal de canal résultant du susdit codage.
