A b s t r a c t A device for exciting a master generator of self-cont- ained power units for transportation facilities comprises a master generator with an excitation winding, an auxiliary exciter generator with an excitation winding, an exciting current regulator, and an independent d-c source. One of the leads of the excitation winding of the master generator is electrically coupled to a respective d-c lead of the auxiliary exciter generator through its excitation winding connected accordantly in series with the excitation winding of the master generator.
