his invention relates to an apparatus to facilitate access to a rail vehicle, including a palette that can be switched between a folded position, in which it is stored just under the floor of the vehicle, and an unfolded position in which it forms a bridge between the vehicle entrance and a platform. The apparatus comprises a palette drive mechanism and a mechanism to lock the palette in its unfolded position at any point in its travel. The drive mechanism is contained within the plane of the palette. The mechanism allows for the palette to be swung around the locking mechanism so that the end of the palette rests on the platform and the palette as a whole forms an even and continuous bridge to the entrance sill, which remains fixed.
