ABSTRACT A device for feeding finely particulate matter into electrostatic free-fall separators is described. The device is formed in shape of a hopper with retarding installations made of electrically insulating material. The bottom edges of the walls of the device define an elongated discharge slit, whereby the feed side includes a vertical guide plate parallel to the discharge slit and an opposed inclined guide plate the bottom edges of which define an elongated slit. Below the elongated slit at a distance two electrodes in the shape of vertical guide plates are disposed in spaced relationship to each other such that the space between the electrodes is only slightly wider than the elongated slit.
