ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Filtering apparatus for non continuous operation comprising a rotary drum with radial ducts for the admission of feed liquid extending from a leak tight distributor connected to a rotary joint located at one end of the drum shaft to outlets on the surface of the drum, control valves on said ducts located in the vicinity of the outlets, a continuous filtering cloth which envelops a wide angular sector of the drum and spreads out over a curved trajectory, and one or more recessed filtration chambers surrounding the drum and the filter cloth over the said angular sector, having their bottom surface grooved and their rim limited by sealing means and whose lower part of the rim is drilled for filtrate extraction. The recessed filtration cham- bers are radially movable and made operative during a filtering phase when the feed liquid is being admitted through the open control valves while the drum and the filtering cloth are sta- tionary by application of a centripetal force on to their external surface, and which are then made non operative by suppression of the force during a phase of cake discharge when` the valves are closed and while the drum and filtration cloth are set in motion to effect evacuation of the solid matter collected between the filtering cloth and the drum.
