A device is provided herein for generating hand functions. The device has an S-type splint consisting of a forearm portion extending along the palmar side of the forearm. A palmo-dorsal transition portion leads to a dorsal portion extending across the dorsal side of the carpal bones of the hand. A palmar portion is provided, at least the end of which touches the palm of the hand of the wearer of the device at least indirectly. A plurality of electrodes is at least indirectly mounted on the S-type splint in positions in which the electrodes can make contact with skin portions directly overlying muscles to be stimulated. The electrodes are connectable to an electronic circuit for producing, upon activation, stimulation currents which are delivered via combinations of the electrodes in predetermined, timed sequences to preselected groups of muscles. At least one switch is actuatable by the wearer of the device, by which switch the predetermined, timed sequences can be initiated.
