In an arrangement for displaying images on a projection screen (2), which arrangement includes a laser (4; 42, 44, 46), which emits a laser beam (5), and a deflecting means (8, 9; 47), which is provided for deflecting the laser beam (5), and an image-generating means (1) which is connected to a controlling device (48) for controlling the laser and the deflecting means (8, 9; 47), the image-generating means (1) is switchable in two operating modes, the first operating mode being the standard operating mode for projecting, and the second being an operating mode in which the laser radiation is harmless to a person (16) disposed in the region to which the laser (4; 42, 44, 46) has access. In this regard, a safety circuit is provided and comprises at least one sensor (22, 24, 26; 60; 72, 74, 76, 78; 84; 90), by means of which a monitored region (17), which is larger than the region (14) accessible to the laser, between the image-generating means (1) and the projection screen (2) is monitored as to the presence of objects, wherein the image-generating means (1) is switchable into the second operating mode by means of the safety circuit, in the event of an object being present.
