A device (1) is described for introducing a foil strip (7) coming from a stock roll (5) into the pinch (2) between two rollers (3, 4), for instance simultaneously with a plate (8) or other flat object onto which the foil must be arranged by means of an adhesive layer. The device (1) is characterized by braking means (9, 10, 11, 12, 20) placed between the stock roll (5) and a roller (3) to exert a braking force on the foil strip (7). The device can for instance be embodied such that the braking means (9, 10, 11, 12, 20) comprise a fixedly disposed braking surface (10) or a braking cylinder (20). A particular embodiment has the feature that a free-rotating guide roller (22, 24) is arranged between the stock roll (5) and the braking cylinder (20) which guide roller (22, 24) determines the tangent plane along which the foil strip (7) reaches the braking cylinder (20). Since the tangent plane (21) along which the foil strip (7) leaves the braking cylinder (20) is stationary, the free-rotating guide roller (22, 24) determines the angle (.alpha.) at which the foil strip (7) lies against the braking cylinder (20).

Ledit dispositif peut par exemple être conçu de telle manière que le dispositif de freinage (9, 10, 11, 12, 20) comporte une surface de freinage fixe (10) ou un rouleau de freinage (20). Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, un rouleau de guidage (22, 24) à rotation libre est placé entre le rouleau de départ (5) et le rouleau de freinage (20). Ledit rouleau de guidage (22, 24) détermine le plan tangent dans lequel le ruban métallique (7) atteint le rouleau de freinage (20). Le plan tangent (21) dans lequel le ruban métallique (7) quitte le rouleau de freinage (20) étant stationnaire, le rouleau de guidage (22, 24) à rotation libre détermine l'angle (.alpha.) auquel le ruban métallique (7) s'appuie contre le rouleau de freinage (20).
