ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved device for introducing gas into a mass of molten metal in a container having a refractory lining, the device comprising a body member having upper and lower surfaces and an outwardly extending flange positioned for engagement within said refractory lining; a plurality of passageways in said body member arranged in a spiral cone-shaped pattern ex- tending to the upper surface of the body member and communicating with an opening in the lower surface of the body member, said body member forming an integral portion of said refractory lining in said container for said molten metal, said passageways arranged to form a plurality of streams of gas rising in said molten metal when gas is introduced through said device whereby swirling stirring motion is imparted to said molten metal.
