Disclosed is a device for monitoring and controlling an intravenous infusion system, which device comprises a sensor element to be associated with a reservoir of the intravenous infusion system and which indirectly controls both an optical or acoustic warning element and a valuing element. In this manner, delivery from an intravenous infusion system no longer has to be carefully monitored. This addresses operational problems in known systems.
