ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for maintaining a filter element in a filter cassette frame comprises a plurality of stiffener members for use with a filter having two rows of adjacent filter bags and releasable clamps for securing the filter element to the frame. Each of the stiffeners comprises a pair of legs insertable separately into adjacent bags of the two rows. The size of the lags is such as to stretch the respective bags. The two legs are rigidly spaced from each other to maintain a predetermined spacing between two rows of the bags. The invention facilitates the replacement of filter elements by dividing a relatively heavy, rigid stiffening frame of prior art with a plurality of interengageable components which can be easily held by the members of the crew exchanging the element.
