The invention relates to a device for opening and locking an unfolding tail unit of the umbrella type capable of being fitted to ammunition. According to the invention, the tail unit (1) comprises: - a body (3), and - at least one fin (4) able to pivot relative to the body along a first axis (Y) and comprising a projection (16) forming an element. The device comprises: - a control ring (9) able to slide relative to the body (3) along a second axis and comprising a component (11) capable of coming to bear against the projection (16) so as to deploy the fin (4), said component (11) forming a further element, the second axis being non-parallel and non-secant to the first axis (Y), and - means (20) belonging to one of the two elements (11, 16) to shape the other element (11, 16) during translation along the second axis of the control ring (9) towards the projection (16) of the fin (4). The shaping may, for example, correspond to machining or elastic or plastic deformation.
