A device fox plasticising thermoplastic material, especially waste, has a plasticising worm carried in a housing into which the material to be plasticised is introduced via an inlet aperture. At this inlet aperture there is a masticating device in the form of two parallel shafts arranged parallel to the axis of the worm, each of which has a plurality of disc-life masticating tools fitted on it. Between each two adjacent masticating tools there is a circular spacer and fixed upright blades engage in the gap between adjacent masticating tools with their sides tangential to the circumference of the spacers. The two shafts are driven at different speeds and their blades formed by the masticating tools masticate the material and press it into the threads of the worm. This ensures a reliable construction with good mastication of the material.
