To produce a device for preparing hot beverages, particularly an electric coffee machine, comprising a housing for accommodating functional components, a brewing unit located in the housing and configured to hold, compress and brew beverage grounds, and a pressed-cake receptacle for used, soaked beverage grounds in the form of pressed cakes, located below a discharge point of the brewing unit and spaced therefrom, in which a soiling of parts, located inside the housing, by the pressed cakes delivered by the brewing unit to the pressed-cake receptacle is largely avoided and prevented, it is proposed that between the discharge point (3) and the pressed-cake receptacle (4) a funnel-like part (5) is detachably fastened, which shields the interior of the housing and components located inside the housing (1) against the pressed cakes discharged at the discharge point (3).
