ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Individual work pieces, such as pieces of synthetic foil for use in the manufacture of shoes, are provided over a predetermined area with min- ute perforations by means of an electron beam. The foils are mounted on respective templates which are, in turn, carried by respective carrier mem- bers mounted on a guide track. A series of carriers is moved along the guide track into an evacuated work chamber where the leading carrier is removed from the guide track by a device which is programmed to move the leading car- rier in a predetermined manner in the fixed beam path of an electron gun without disturbing the other carriers. After return of the leading carrier to the guide track, the carriers move along so that the next successive carrier is subjected to the same radiation process.
