Abstract of the Disclosure A device protects a structure against the effects of high hori- zontal dynamic stresses. A system of friction supports is constituted by seating blocks applied against each other and incorporated respectively with the structure and with the foundation floor. A relative displacement with friction is permitted between the associated blocks along their mutual bearing surface. The coefficients of static and dynamic friction of the con- tact surfaces range between a minimum of 0.08 which is compatible with the permissible displacements of the structure as a function of the structural connections and a maximum value of 0.5 which is compatible with the threshold value of inherent resistance of the structure. The area of one of the fric- tion surfaces of the blocks projects to an appreciable extent with respect to the area of the adjacent surface. The friction supports comprise at least one elastomer block in series with the friction surfaces.
